MOTION
Upon recommendation of Cheryl Porter, Chief Operating Officer - Water and Field Services, the Board of Directors (Board) of the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA), authorizes the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to enter into Contract No. GLWA-DB-093, "Design Build Roofing Repair and Replacement for the 1930's Filter Building of the Springwells Water Treatment Plant" with Schreiber Corporation, at a cost not to exceed $3,900,000.00 for a duration of 285 days; and authorizes the CEO to take such other action as may be necessary to accomplish the intent of this vote.
BACKGROUND
Construction activity under Contract SP-563 "1958 Filters Replacement and Facilities Rehabilitation at Springwells Water Treatment Plant" in 2014-2015 revealed that water damage has been on-going and is causing clerestory window (upper window) and lintel (horizontal support across the top of a window opening) deterioration. A survey conducted for GLWA in May 2017 indicated 29 percent of the roofing material was characterized as "wet". The moisture causes significant damage to the underlying structure which the project will address. The construction needs to protect new equipment installed under SP-563, and challenges include a seasonal construction work schedule.
