MOTION
Upon recommendation of Navid Mehram, Chief Operating Officer - Wastewater Operating Services, the Board of Directors (Board) of the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA), authorizes the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to enter into Contract No. 2304897, "Northwest Interceptor to Oakwood CSO Sewer Construction" with Jay Dee Contractors, Inc, at a cost not to exceed $73,508,929.00 for a duration of 1,461 days; and authorizes the CEO to take such other action as may be necessary to accomplish the intent of this vote.
BACKGROUND
The Northwest interceptor to Oakwood Combined Sewer Overflow sewer (NOCSOs) was conceived of as part of the Wastewater Master Plan to maximize the use of existing facilities to treat wet weather flows. The Oakwood Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Retention Basin has historically been underutilized in terms of flow to the facility. The study and design resulted in this construction project constructing a tunnel to divert excess wet weather flows from the Northwest Interceptor (NWI) to the Oakwood CSO basin for treatment and discharge.
Better utilization of the Oakwood CSO Facility represents strategic planning at GLWA aimed at maximizing the use of our existing infrastructure before constructing additional new facilities to handle the same challenges.
