MOTION
Upon recommendation of Cheryl Porter, Chief Operating Officer - Water and Field Services, the Board of Directors (Board) of the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA), authorizes the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to enter into Contract No. GLWA-CON-281 "Southwest Water Treatment Plant High Lift Pump Discharge Valve Actuators Replacement and HLP System Modification" with Weiss Construction Co., LLC, at a cost not to exceed $5,271,632.00 for a duration of three (3) years and one (1) month; and authorizes the CEO to take such other action as may be necessary to accomplish the intent of this vote.
BACKGROUND
GLWA's Southwest Water Treatment Plant (SWWTP) is one of five water treatment facilities. The existing oil-hydraulic system is leaking and at the end of its service life. The leaking system poses safety concerns and replacement is needed. A study to determine the best solution for this system's replacement was initiated in June of 2015 under contract number SCP-CS-1653 "Evaluation of Alternatives for New High-Lift Discharge Valve Actuators at the Southwest Water Treatment Plant". The SCP-CS-1653 study was completed in January 2016 with the recommendation of replacing the existing oil-hydraulic system complete with electric-motor actuators.
