MOTION
Upon recommendation of Navid Mehram, Chief Operating Officer - Wastewater Operating Services, the Board of Directors (Board) of the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA), authorizes the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to enter into Requisition No. REQ-0004099, "Pump Station 2 Variable Frequency Drives Upgrade at the Water Resource Recovery Facility" with Clark Construction Company, at a cost not to exceed $38,789,412.00 for a duration of 1,885 days; and authorizes the CEO to take such other action as may be necessary to accomplish the intent of this vote.
BACKGROUND
Pump Station No. 2, built in 1994, receives its influent flow from the Oakwood Interceptor and North Interceptor East Arm. The wastewater enters the pump station, where it is lifted by eight (8) centrifugal pumps, and is then conveyed by gravity through the screening facility. Five (5) of the eight (8) pumps are equipped with variable frequency drives (VFDs), which are used to control the flow of wastewater into the Water Resource Recovery Facility. The VFDs have reached the end of their serviceable life and spare parts are no longer available. Accordingly, it was recommended to rehabilitate the VFDs with energy efficient and more reliable control systems that require less maintenance and to replace the aging motors.
