MOTION
Upon recommendation of Cheryl Porter, Chief Operating Officer - Water and Field Services, the Board of Directors (Board) of the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA), authorizes the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to enter into Requisition No. REQ-0007888, “Installation of New 24-inch Water Transmission Main on Merriman Road” with LGC Global, Inc., at a cost not to exceed $3,378,240.00 for a duration of 637 days, and authorizes the CEO to take such other action as may be necessary to accomplish the intent of this vote.
BACKGROUND
This proposed contract is to construct one-half mile of a new 24-inch water main to be installed on Merriman Road between Marquette Street and Cherry Hill Street in Garden City, Michigan, Wayne County. The new 24-inch transmission main will tie into GLWA’s existing 42-inch PCCP at Marquette Street and GLWA’s existing 16-inch cast iron at Cherry Hill Road. The project includes two tie-ins, installation of gate, triple offset metal-seated ball, and butterfly valves. Installation of this new water main will provide redundancy between our Ford Road Booster Pump Station and Michigan Avenue Booster Pump Station. This is phase I of II for this Capital Improvement Project.
JUSTIFICATION
Recommendation is being requested for this construction contract of a new 24-inch water main on Merriman Road between Marquette Street and Cherry Hill Street in the city of Garden City, Michigan. GLWA’s Michigan Avenue Booster Pump Station (Michigan BPS) is located in Wayne, Michigan and boosts the water pressure to serve master meters to the cities of Inkster, Romulus, Wayne, and Westland. These meters are fed from the discharge of the Michigan BPS and do not have redundant feed from another booster station if Michigan Avenue Booster Pump Station has a disruption of power or mechanical failure. There have been several disruptions in the past two years causing lower pressures at the meters. The new 24-inch will provide redundancy from our Ford Road Booster Pump Station in case of future disruptions to service at the Michigan Avenue Booster Pump Station.
