VMware Live Recovery

Vendor: People Driven Technology

Status: New Contract/PO

MOTION

Upon recommendation of Jeffrey Small, Chief Information Officer, the Board of Directors (Board) of the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA), authorizes the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to enter into Requisition No. REQ-0008979 , “VMware Live Recovery” with People Driven Technology, at a cost not to exceed $2,172,217.00 for a duration of three (3) years; and authorizes the CEO to take such other action as may be necessary to accomplish the intent of this vote.

BACKGROUND

With the ongoing rise of cybersecurity threats, it is imperative that organizations like GLWA deploy enterprise-grade solutions capable of protecting mission-critical data and ensuring the uninterrupted availability of technology that support core operations. Without modernized recovery capabilities, GLWA faces increased exposure to extended system outages, data loss, and potential significant operational and financial impacts. In 2022, in response to these risks, the GLWA Information Technology (IT) Group selected VMware Cloud Disaster Recovery-now known as VMware Live Recovery-as its primary disaster recovery platform.

JUSTIFICATION

VMware Live Recovery is a proven cloud-based solution that automates many of the disaster recovery functions and enables a faster return to normal operations during an outage. Since adopting VMware Live Recovery, GLWA has consolidated its recovery tools into a single, centrally managed platform reducing complexity and improving operational efficiency. This unified approach reduces operational overhead, enhances administrative efficiency, and improves visibility across GLWA’s virtual infrastructure. The solution’s licensing model also ensures that costs are scaled with actual usage, enabling responsible better fiscal management while still meeting GLWA’s recovery objectives and aligning with longer term resiliency strategy.
